Winter is well known for the dangers it can pose to Wisconsin drivers. When coupled with the traditional New Year's celebrations, the combination can become potentially fatal. Luckily, an accident that occurred in early January did not cause any deaths.
According to police, a 25-year-old man from Viroqua, Wisconsin was driving south on State Highway 27 early on New Year's Day at around 1:40 a.m. in Christiana Township. His vehicle crossed the center of the road, traveling into oncoming traffic where it crashed into a northbound vehicle driven by a 29-year-old female from West Salem, Wisconsin.
The 29-year-old and her passenger, a 26-year-old male, were taken to a hospital in La Crosse after they sustained minor injuries. The 25-year-old driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition upon arrival.
The accident is under investigation, and police did not say whether any charges were pending or if they believed alcohol played a part in the accident.
The time that the accident occurred at could lead people to believe that drunk driving was involved. Unfortunately many people decide that they can still drive safely after consuming too much alcohol at a New Year's party. Luckily in this case no one was killed, but that is exactly what happens too many times when someone decides to get behind the wheel after drinking.
The injured driver and her passenger may want to consider consulting with an experienced personal injury attorney, who can inform them of their options if they want to pursue a lawsuit seeking monetary damages.
